چکیده
The present study was conducted with the objective to the iron, copper and zinc variations in serum of Nili-Ravi buffaloes during pre and post partum periods determine. The study was carried out on 35 pregnant Nili-Ravi buffaloes during June 2008 to October 2008 at Buffalo Research Institute, Pattoki, District Kasur. Blood samples were taken from these buffaloes during three, two and one week before parturition, at the time of parturition and then one, two and three weeks after parturition. Serum iron, copper and zinc were determined on Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. The mean serum iron and copper concentration differed significantly (P<0.05) among different groups. There was decreasing tendency of iron concentration towards parturition. The copper concentration was found significantly higher (P<0.05) at the day of parturition and it increased thereafter significantly (P<0.05) following three weeks. The serum zinc concentrations increased significantly (P<0.05) among last three weeks before parturition. There was non-significant (P>0.05) decrease in zinc concentration between 1st and 2nd week after parturition where as a significant increased (P<0.05) in zinc concentration took place during 3 week after parturition. Serum zinc concentrations also dropped at the day of parturition.

The study was conducted to determine the effect of long term use of bovine somatotropic hormone (bST) on days to first oestrus post-partum, number of services per conception, pregnancy rate, lactation length, dry period and calving interval for a period of three years, from 2004 to 2007. Thirty Nili-Ravi lactating buffaloes with approximately similar milk yields and stage of lactation were sele...

Rumen Yeast® (RY; Saccharomyces cerevisiae), a live yeast strain, improves milk yield and composition and nutrients digestibility through balancing rumen ecosystem and increasing ruminal cellulolytic bacteria numbers in cattle. To examine the effects of dietary supplementation of RY in Nili-Ravi buffaloes, 16 buffaloes with 8 L average daily milk production were randomly divided into two groups...

Serum progesterone and estradiol-17β levels were estimated in Nili Ravi buffaloes (n=190) with and without fetal membranes retention in three agro-ecological zones of Punjab. The results showed that serum progesterone concentration was significantly higher (P<0.05) in buffaloes with retention of fetal membranes (RFM) compared to buffaloes without retention of fetal membranes (NRFM). The compari...

Chinese native buffaloes have faced the threat of extinction, along with an increase in crossbreeding with domesticated river buffaloes; consequently, conservation of local buffalo genetic resources has become a priority. A Chinese native breed, Jianghan, is often crossed intentionally and unintentionally with imported breeds from India and Pakistan, Murrah, and Nili-Ravi. A total of 128 b...
